About the school

Our school campus encompasses the Bluecoat CE Infant School, Children’s Centre, Family Centre and Forest School.

Our building has 9 classes organised into Lower and upper school teams. In the middle is a super library and music area. The children can also use the digital system to borrow books.

We have our own Digital Creativity Zone which can be used to access the latest technology. All classes have access to wireless laptops and net-books in order to enhance and raise standards of attainment across all the curriculum areas.

We have three group rooms which are set up to enhance the children’s learning and ensure that we can access quality resources.

The sports hall doubles as the dining room at lunch time and whole school assembly. The school grounds boasts an upper and lower playground with its football and basketball goals and multi-use games area. There is a forest school area and small grass areas and a very large tepee. At present the PTFA are looking into developing the school grounds in order to provide the children with more play and sporting opportunities during the play and lunch breaks.

In the middle of the school there is a small quiet garden area and pond which is also the home to a number of frogs, toads and a rare great crested newt.

At the moment we are undergoing many changes - in all areas. There is a new Acting Headteacher, who is also a National Leader of Education and Headteacher of Woolacombe Primary School. This connection means we have greater opportunities for our staff and children who are able to access more events and facilities.

Parents are very welcome in our school. The staff are available every Tuesday and Wednesday mornings from 08:40 if you wish to just visit or discuss anything. Of course, if you do have a problem or wish to have more time with your child’s class teacher please do not hesitate to make an appointment.

If you are not satisfied with any outcomes or just wish to discuss ways forward with the Headteacher please do not hesitate. Our desire is to work together in order for your child to have the very best education and opportunities.

We see Great Torrington as being a ‘Home for Learning’ for your child to enjoy and achieve and to do this we also need your super support.
